Give something away as a gift for buying now or give a half off deal if the customer buys today. Make your offer irresistible. People want a lot for a little with this economy so give it to them now and get them later when things are better (they will get better eventually). Just make sure you get all their contact information so you can sell them something else down the road. If they like what they got now, they will buy again!
So the keys to keeping your home based business profitable during the bad economy times are more advertising and better deals for your product or service. If you have a sloppy blog that looks “homemade” you will not likely have a great response.
4. Graphics Overload. Pictures can add a ton to your blog and draw in more readers. However, when done excessively, much like ads, pictures can drive people away. The main reason too many pictures can ruin a blog is because there are many web surfers who still use slow internet connections. When they try to load your page, it will take an excessively long time to do so. This in turn will likely drive them and anyone else with this problem away.

One of the biggest roadblocks in a home based business is procrastination. Procrastination is the enemy of both goal setting and time management. By constantly putting off and delaying what needs to be done either to complete a goal (or setting goals in the first place) or a project, you end up making it harder to get something finished and you increase your levels of stress.
Most of us feel the urge to procrastinate, especially in the face of an unpleasant or seemingly impossible task. However, we have to fight that feeling by forcing ourselves to keep working. Here’s a tip. If you’re facing something you don’t want to do and you’re thinking about procrastinating, force yourself to spend at least ten minutes on the project. By the time you get that far into the work, you’ll probably be able to keep going until you get it done.
When you start your online business, set your goals and get them accomplished! Procrastination is not only a major roadblock for a home based business, it is possibly the number one cause of failure to succeed! There are successful home based businesses out there. It is from the people who got the job done and not putting it off.
Most of us, and that includes just about anyone who has been online for even a short while seeking to setup their own online business, has heard the phrase “do what you love”. Really, the biggest hurdle and challenges one faces in building a web business is figuring out just what it is we want to get into – your niche.
A “niche” is basically a topic or a market that has enough interest by others that you can develop a site or a product around. For some people doing what they love comes easy to them but for many others it’s a struggle trying to find out exactly what they like to do that translates into an online business. Here are a few things to think about to help you find your own niche that you will feel fits you best.
The first thing I recommend is that you do some brain storming about your personal likes and dislikes. Find a quite spot somewhere, such as your easy chair or anywhere that works for you, as long as you can limit the distractions and let your thoughts flow. Have a pen and paper handy to write down any thing that comes to mind that could be a niche you would enjoy.
Write down 6-12 ideas that come to mind. If your having problems coming up with ideas it may take a little more time. You can also do this over the course of a week or longer if necessary. After you have your topics written down then get online and do a keyword search to find out how many searches are done for the topic your interested in.
Keep in mind some of your topics will have a good amount of searches while others will show little or none. You may have to dig down through the initial keywords to find a niche that suits you. After you have drilled down to find your ideal niche then you will want to give some thought as to how you can serve this niche before you actually set up your website. Can you solve a pressing problem? Provide a useful product? You can generally find what people are looking for by finding and reading forum posts about your niche.
Pick a keyword from your selected niche that seems to suit you and go to Google and do a search for it. Take a look at the top right of the page and see how many web pages there are about this keyword. If it’s 5 figures or less then I’d say you have a pretty good niche idea to either set up a mini-site or full blown content site and then optimize it to obtain a top 10 ranking. If your going to develop a full content based site keep your keyword list as you can use it to create content such as articles, RSS feeds, videos, etc. Using the tips above you should easily be able to come up with a niche of your own in a relatively short time.

As a newbie in the home based business market, you will be flooded with phone calls from companies or just some people telling you that you need this and you need that or your online business will not succeed. Be careful, some salesmen are very good at what they do and are quite 
convincing. So when should “no” be the correct answer?
When starting a home based business you need to have a budget. Know how much you can spend and what you can afford as a monthly payment. This will go a long way in helping you decide what you really need to have for your online business. After all, if you can’t afford to pay for something then that is a really good time to say no! Again, a good salesmen won’t give up. He will tell you that you need to invest or you will fail. He will show you examples of his most successful customers and explain that he could do the same for you.
Don’t always fall for it. You don’t know what the other customers’ budget is and while he may be right with what he is saying, it will take time for things to be successful and if you have no income in the beginning and the monthly bills keep coming in, that spells doom for any home based business.
There are going to be some investments you will need to make to ensure that your online business will succeed. Do research on any company before you invest with them. Check the better business bureau to see if that company is listed and if there are any complaints on them. A good piece of advice…NO company will turn down your business, so there is never a need to sign on immediately. I was told once that I could only get the discount if I signed now. I told the salesmen that I needed to check with my partner first and ended up still getting the same discount 2 hours later… after I did my research.
Bottom line is when you start a home based business, it is going to take some time for it to be really successful. Have a budget in place to help you decide on investments. Remember, There is no way any business, home based business or online business will survive if it is paying out more than it is making. Know when “no” is the correct answer.
