As the Internet moves forward, the number of increasing scams online make it harder to find a legitimate online business opportunity to make legitimate extra cash with. It can be difficult to sort through all the hype and see which ones are for real.
You may ask yourself how do I find a legitimate online business opportunity and pick out which ones are scams to avoid. I am going to show you seven things to look out for when searching for legitimate online business opportunities.
1. A Proven System – Is the business system a proven model that has been tested through time and will produce results without having to reinvent an old strategy or try new experimental marketing techniques?
2. Overly Hyped Business – You know what I’m talking about. Have you ever seen those websites with a picture of a sports car with some rich guy surrounded by women? Yes, there will always be some hype, but stay away from a business that really over does it. Stay away from any online business opportunity that will promise you big money for little or no work on your part.
3. How Long Have They Been Around? – I would always research and find out how long a company has been around. Don’t believe what they tell you. Lookup and find out how long ago they registered their domain and this could be a good indicator of if they are lying or not.
4. Training & Marketing Resources – This is a very important one. Every legitimate online business opportunity should always have the tools available for you to market your business and provide you with full support should you need help getting started. Make sure that you have access to a phone, e-mail or live chat support.
5. Reputation – Before you join any opportunity, make sure that they are with the Better Business Bureau, I-Cop or Better Internet Bureau and in good standing. There are many watchdog organizations online that protect consumers. Also search for the company name and the word “review” or “scam” and see if there are many complaints or negative reviews about them. You are always going to find someone who bad mouths somebody, but an excessive amount triggers a red flag.
6. Requires Large Investment – If you want to be successful with an online business you are going to have to spend some money and invest in your business if you want to see a return. Not all opportunities are free, but I would look out for any scheme that asks for a very large setup fee for getting into the program. Even if a program asks for money, they should have a free trial that you can sign up for so you can try it out and see if it suits you
7. Your Own Website – If you are serious about starting your own home based business, you are going to need your own website to get started. Many legitimate online business opportunities provide members with their own affiliate websites that you can use to promote the opportunity or product. You should also be provided with a way to capture leads for your business and have an autoresponder too follow-up with sales messages to turn your prospects into buyers.
These are my seven tips to finding a legitimate online business opportunity. Use them as a basic guideline and do your research and I can guarantee that you will never be scammed again. Also, remember that even if you find the perfect opportunity, the success is up to you. Nobody can guarantee you success unless you take action.
Today I want to go over something with all of you that happened to me two days ago. I have a web page called “The Secret Pays“. This is one of the online businesses that I promote. Now, this is a separate site that I received when I joined this company, but I also have it linked from my own site at www.bizideasforhome.com. Now this all makes sense since I am trying to get as much traffic as I can.
I will get to what happened in a minute, but first I need to explain a couple of things. As a home based business owner, I have done some research and I try to learn as much as I can about the online business world. One thing I’ve learned is that if you have your own web page you need to get it ranked high in search engines to really become successful (I know, kind of a no brainer). But what I really learned is that you need a company that specializes in SEO which stands for Search Engine Optimization.
So I invested in one a while back that over time wasn’t really getting the results I wanted. When I received a phone call from another SEO company, there offer seemed much better and even came with a money back guarantee. So I canceled the one and reinvested in this one that I am currently working with for about 2 months now. When I invest in something, I always give it its due to see if it works or not.
Now here is what happened this week. I received another phone call from another SEO company. Just an FYI, receiving phone calls from companies when you have your own home based business is a good thing so I always listen to what they have to say. What they went over seemed very interesting and I probably would have invested if I didn’t already have a company working for me. They were looking to work on “The Secret Pays” site. The company I am with now is working on my own site, but remember, I have an entire page on my site dedicated to “The Secret Pays” site so in essence, it is being promoted.
When I tried to explain to the sales person that it all sounded good but I wasn’t ready to invest now because of I already invested in someone, she just wouldn’t take no for an answer. Now I always bookmark their sites because you never know if you might need them in the future. I told her I would do this but it didn’t seem to matter. After a couple of minutes when she realized she wasn’t getting a sale, all of a sudden a mans voice is now on the other end and he states that she had to leave her phone suddenly…yeah…ok.
So now I had to explain to him why I wasn’t buying at that moment. But he insisted that I click the buy now button on their page so 
he could show me the great discount that they were running only on that day and that he would hold the price for the day (he just wasn’t getting it). I told him nicely that I wanted to end the call but he just kept insisting that I hit the buy now button so I ended up hanging up on him and being very frustrated!
Now I know that if I would call them back today or any day that the “special” price would still be there, that is another thing I’ve learned. So as a home based business owner, be careful not to get caught up in all the hype of a sales call from someone. Having an SEO company working for you is recommended by most so if you have a web page for your online business, do some research if you haven’t received any calls yet. But trust me, you WILL start receiving phone calls. Just be careful who you invest in.
As more and more people get laid off it is becoming very clear that there really is no such thing as job security. If you work from someone, there
is always a chance you could be laid off. Why leave your financial future in the hands of someone else? Now is the time to take control. You see, when you start your own home based business you are in complete control.
You decide when to work and you decide how much money you want to make. Its all up to you. No one can lay you off and no one can fire you. You are the boss. Wouldn’t it feel good to be in charge and to wake up every morning and just roll over to your laptop to start working?
Everyday thousands of people jump on the home based business bandwagon. Sadly, only a very small percentage of them will be able to bring in a decent income every month from their new online business. Why? Well mainly because people tend to get all excited about their new online business that they fail to realize just how much work it takes to make it successful.

Today’s society wants us to believe that we need to be doing something 24/7 365 or we will fail. Can you say burnout! This is probably the number 1 reason a lot of people are turning to home based businesses. Without having an online business myself, I would not be able to get my kids to their sports events on time (and they are only in 1 sport at a time), get my grass cut or anything else around the house done for that matter, workout to try to stay healthy and oh yeah…sleep! Having a full time job away from home would be impossible at this point.
Having a home based business or online business allows me to get everything done that I need to without having that “burned out” feeling. However, even working from home requires some sort of schedule. You still need to plan your day, week and even your month. Without a plan or schedule, you will be running around like a chicken without its head! There are just to many things to get done and without structure, you will fail.
My advice and the advice of many others is to plan out your day first. Set a time that you will work on your home based business and stick to that, but do not make that time more than 8 hours. If you try to work 15 hours a day you will burnout quickly and your home based business will fail. Remember, you are working from home to have more free time…not less. Also, make time for your family and for yourself. This will help you get rid of the stress that comes with starting a home based business.
Next, plan your week. Allow yourself a day or two off. Personally, I do not work much on weekends. I like to have that day away from the computer screen. I also like to work out so I set time aside to do that. Again, keeps the stress level down. You should allow 1 hour a day, 3 days a week to exercise. You will be amazed at how much better you will feel!
You can even plan farther ahead, say the month or even the year. Set your goals of what you would like to accomplish with your home based business in 3 months, 6 months and by the end of your first year. A very important point…make your goals achievable! This will help keep you motivated to succeed.
Most importantly, don’t forget to plan that vacation! We all need to get away. Taking some time off from “life” to relax and rejuvenate yourself can work wonders. Burnout is one of the top reasons people fail with anything including home based businesses. Try to do everything in moderation. If you can achieve this, you will find yourself as a wealthy person.
Successful home based businesses are just that because of planning. Someone had a goal, made a plan to get there and set a schedule to reach it without burning out. That is how you become successful with your home based business and in life!
