Tired of going work yet? It has only been a month since the holiday break. Looking forward to that 1 or 2 weeks of vacation you get this year…I couldn’t even image! Today we will have a little pep talk. We are now 22 days into the new year and I want to see who is still keeping their new years resolutions! In the world of home based businesses and online businesses, in my opinion, affiliate marketing is one of the best. If you have your own website to promote your products or someone else’s product, then you need to drive traffic to your site in order to be successful. Here are a few ways for you to do that:

1. Relevant Content. Plainly put, you need unique and relevant content on your website. Your website should look like a good resource center for your visitors and needs to teach them about the product or service you are promoting. The search engines also like unique content and it will help you with search engine optimization.

2. Keywords. Your website needs to have your keywords in the content and preferably at or near the top and also in the title. You will also want to use your keywords though out the content but don’t over do it! To help you find keywords for your site, go to www.adwords.google.com/select/KeywordTool.

3. Get Backlinks. What you will want to do here is find websites that have a high page rank and and that is close to the same niche that you have but not in direct competition with you and ask them to put a link to your site on their web site in exchange for a link on your site to theirs. The more of these you have, the better your site will do on the search engines.

4. Articles and Blogs. Write articles about you product or service and submit them to article directories. Make sure you have a link back to your site. Most article directories will allow this in the bio section of the submission process. Also, you should have a blog and post good content in it on a regular basis…3 to 4 times a week minimum. Again, have a link back to your website somewhere in the content.

5. Advertise. You can find a lot of free advertising on the Internet, just Google free Internet advertising and start submitting your ads on these sites and as always, link back to your site. Pay per click advertising is a great way to generate instant traffic. However, this comes with a cost so be careful not to lose your shirt on this method.

The hardest part of an online business is getting traffic to your site and converting the traffic into sales! A great way to make money online is to be part of a joint venture or mostly referred to as a JV. A JV is simply working with another entrepreneur to make money on a product or service. By joining forces, you greatly improve your chance to make some serious money. Now, there are two different ways to be part of a JV.

The first way would be to have your own product or service and have others join you to promote your product. You would then pay them a commission for every sale they make. The more JV’s you have working with you, the more money you could make. The other way would be for you to promote someone else’s product or service. There is a plus and a minus to this method. The plus is that you don’t have to have your own website or product and basically no worries, the only thing you have to do is promote the product and the owner of that product takes care of the rest.  The downside to this method is you wont be quite as profitable as you could be with your own product, but you still can make a lot if you choose a good product that people want.

If you are rather new to this business, then I suggest you start with promoting another product. Once you get established, then it will benefit you to create your own product and get into JV’s then. Today I want to touch on MLM or multi level marketing. MLM is the way to make some serious money no matter if you have an online business or a traditional business. MLM is having others work either with you or under you in order for you to achieve more sales. A great example is an owner of a company sells product X, the owner then hires multiple sales people to also sell that product so instead of just 1 person (the owner) selling, he now has many selling and his chance at success is that much greater. The sales person gets a commission on each sale and the company gets the rest.

In the online business world, we call this affiliate marketing. There are two different ways you can do affiliate marketing. The most profitable way is to have your own product, the other way is to promote someone else’s product. If you have your own product, then it is the same as if you own the company. You will want to find affiliates (sales people) to help you sell your product and pay them a commission on their sales. The more affiliates you have, the better chance you will have  at being successful.

If you do not have your own product, you can easily find a product and promote that for the person who made it. Now you are the sales person and you work on commissions. I am sure you can see the difference in earning potential between the two. However, with an online business and the Internet being as huge as it is, an affiliate marketer promoting other products can still be extremely wealthy.

There are other types of MLM. There are companies that will have what’s called pyramid schemes. This is where you have both uplines and downlines. The theory here is someone brings you in to the company and you are now part of his downline. You sell and your upline gets a commission. Your job is to then recruit others to join and they become your downline. Everything they sell, you and your upline gets a cut. Next step is your downline is supposed to recruit others to join and so on. This can be a very lucrative business if you and your downline is successful. In my onion, this type of MLM is much harder to be successful with because you are relying on so many others to succeed.

There are many online business on the Internet. No matter which you choose you will need to work hard at it to become successful. If you can find others to help you with your business, the more leverage you will have to earn a great living with your online business.

The key to any success in life is knowledge! The more informed you are about something, the better you will be at it. Smart people make smart decisions. So if you want to start a home based business, wouldn’t it make sense to get all the information you can about it and learn as much as you can so you can become successful. It’s what I would you do and have done! It’s like going to school to learn a trade so you can get a job in that field only with an online business, you can earn legitimate extra cash while you are still learning.

There are a couple of ways to get some good information without spending any money or maybe very little money depending on the quality of the information. Most entrepreneurs will offer you just enough free information on something and leave you wanting more which is when you will have to pay for it…this is how we make a living! We do this by writing articles, blog posts or offering you a  free newsletter (see upper left side of this page) and in that article, blog or newsletter you get some quality information on the subject you are interested in. Then there will be a link to a page where you can buy some sort of product, training course or maybe an ebook that gives the rest of the information you need to get you started.

Pricing for these offers can range anywhere from a couple dollars on up to thousands, depending on what is being offered. Most ebooks sell on the low end of the investment while full training courses (books, cd’s, video’s, memberships, etc.) run on the high end.  One example of what I do is post blogs and write articles about affiliate marketing and then give you a link to my ebook which goes into detail on everything you need to know about that online business and how to succeed with it. This ebook sells at a very low cost and the return on investment is endless!

So the more you can learn about whatever it is that interests you, the better chance you have at becoming successful at it. My advise to you if you are interested in an online business, sign up for as many newsletters as you can (you can always unsubscribe to them) and read articles or blog posts on your niche and learn as much as you can! The more you know, the more successful you will be.
